Journey To South Africa

Our goal for this film was to photograph the big five: elephant, rhinoceros, lion, buffalo and leopard. In the days before the word eco-tourism was invented, these animals were the most dangerous to hunt. Today, more humans are killed by hippopotamus than by any other animal in Africa.

From Fez To Marrakech

Morocco is a land of contrasts, from the Berber villages clinging precariously to the hillside in the High Atlas Mountains - to the rolling sand dunes of the Sahara Desert - to the souks of the imperial cities of Fez, Marrakech and Casablanca. It was also the setting for several famous Hollywood movies.

Alaska's Inside Passage

Alaska's Inside Passage is a very special place, not only for the glorious spectacle put on by the humpback whales, but for all the other animals that make this their home. Despite centuries of abuse, whales, sea lions, seals and other endangered species are making a comeback.

South To Antarctica

To experience Antarctica is to experience the last wilderness on earth. Its seas contain the largest biomass on the planet and its ice contains an historical record of our climate. The magic of the landscape and the majesty of its inhabitants make this a very special place.

The Sharks Of Guadalupe Island

We spent an exciting week at the Mexican island of Guadalupe filming the great white sharks that come here for the tuna run. Males arrive in September for an easy meal of yellow-fin tuna, snatched from the fishing lines. Females arrive in October. By November, the sharks are fat, mellow and curious, allowing us to get great close-up footage in the clear waters surrounding the island.

Close Encounters Of The Underwater Kind

A close encounter with one of the large animals of the sea is a real treat for the underwater photographer and the theme for this video. Staring eyeball to eyeball with a shark, ray or whale elicits a feeling of communication with the animal as well as a significant boost in adrenaline level.

Dances With Mantas

Rays and sharks are from the same species called elasmobranches, containing no bones only cartilage. Mantas are plankton eaters, using their large cephalic fins to guide food into their mouths. These encounters took place at San Benedicto Island, 250 miles south of the tip of the Baja peninsular in Mexico.

The Sea Of Life

The Sea Of Cortez was once one of the richest displays of marine bio-diversity on earth. It was pure, untamed and filled with the energy that abundant life generates. Overfishing, greed, corruption and lawlessness have greatly diminished the resources of this underwater treasure.

Hammerheads of Malpelo

The magnificent schools of scalloped hammerhead sharks that inhabit the waters surrounding the island of Malpelo have puzzled marine biologists for years. Often numbering in the hundreds, they are the only shark species to swim in schools, but certainly not for protection from predators.

Hawaii's Underwater Paradise

Hawaii is one of the youngest islands in the Pacific, with reefs just beginning their development. Yet, it is home to a great variety of fish, invertebrates and sea mammals, including mantas, turtles, eels, lobsters, crabs, shrimps, reef fish, octopus and other animals, making it a true underwater paradise.

Midway is For the Birds

Midway Atoll, located 1200 miles Northwest of Hawaii, is a sanctuary for more than 2 million birds, including terns, boobies, tropicbirds and Laysan albatross. In June, 400,000 fledgling albatross are learning to fly. The reefs surrounding the atoll are home to sharks, turtles, eels and colorful reef fish.

India - Home Of The Bengal Tiger

India is home to one billion people - more than 15% of the world's population. It is also home to 3500 tigers - about 60% of the world's population. But, surprisingly, loss of habitat is not the main reason for the rapid decline in the number of tigers in India. Trophy hunting and trade in tiger parts has reduced the population of the magnificent Bengal tiger to just 3500 animals, down from more than 100,000 just over a century ago.

Eye Candy - Images From The Banda Sea Diving In The Fiji Islands

The Republic Of Fiji covers a large expanse of the legendary South Pacific. Underwater, the signature of the Fijian reef is color, boasting the most blatant array of stunning soft corals in the Southern Hemisphere - perhaps in the world.

Humpback Whales Of Tonga

The humpback whale is an endangered species, with no more than 25,000 existing today in all the world's oceans, a decline of more than 85% since estimates were made in the late 1800s. I hope that sharing these brief encounters provides you with a better understanding of this gentle animal.

Tails Of The South Pacific

The Banda Sea is a magical place for the underwater photographer. The reefs are healthy and the variety of fish and invertebrate species is outstanding. In three weeks of diving, we were able to capture images of some of the most sought after photo subjects in the sea.

Kritters Of Komodo

This Indonesian island is famous for the largest monitor lizard in the world – the Komodo Dragon. Of equal grandeur is the vast array of fish and invertebrate species that inhabit its pristine reefs, from the colorful flamboyant cuttlefish to the exotic bobbit worm.

Koyasan - Home Of Shingon Buddhism

The story of Koyasan is the story of Kukai, the founder of Shingon Buddhism and the man who established the first center here for the teaching and practice in the 9th century. Over the years, the city has been revered as a center for spiritual respite for people from all walks of life.

Diving In Palau

Palau is certainly one of the premiere dive locations in the world. The combination of large pelagic animals, the unique nature of the Rock Islands, the steep walls, blue holes, huge schools and vast array of reef fish and invertebrates attract a steady stream of divers to this remote location in the Pacific.

The Many Faces Of Papua New Guinea

Papua New Guinea is a photographer's paradise, extending from the colorful tribes that populate the highlands to the colorful reefs off New Britain Island. Guided by a very knowledgeable talking bubble, we take a visual tour of this remote land from both perspectives.

Exploring Ancient Turkey

Turkey is a country of contrasts, which once witnessed the ebb and flow of great cultures. On one side is the domed mosque with the muezzin's call to prayer. On the other side is a modern country, growing too fast and clamoring for recognition as a 20th century European power.
